American Eagle Silver Dollar

The Silver Eagle Dollar, also known as the the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins, were authorized by Congress in 1985 and first minted in 1986.

Silver Eagles are .999 fine silver, the finest silver coins that have ever been issued by the United States. Each coin contains a full troy ounce of silver, plus copper, which is added to strengthen the coin's durability and assist it's resistance to scratching and marring.

The Silver Eagles's design is based on A.A. Weinman's "Walking Liberty," which was introduced on the 1917 sliver half-dollar.
