The United States 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar coins were minted from 1878 through 1904 and again for one more year in 1921. The Morgan Dollar is named after its desinger -- Geroge T. Morgan. He designed both sides of the coin.
It has a fineness of .900 giving a total silver content of 0.77344 troy ounces ( 24.057 grams) per coin.
In coin collector language, the front side is called the obverse side and the back side is called the reverse of the coin.
On the Morgan Silver Dollar, the mintmarks are located underneath the tail feathers of the bald eagle on the reverse side between the letters D and O in Dollar.
Mintmarks:
- P (represents the Philadelphia Mint in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
- CC (represents the Carson City Mint in Carson City, Nevada) -- most valuable because of their usually low mintages.
- D (represents the Denver Mint in Denver, Colorado)
- O (represents the New Orleans Mint in New Orleans, Louisiana)
- S (represents the San Francisco Mint in San Francisco, California)
